Went tonight to pick up some food to go that my husband & I have been missing. Got Fundidos one ckn one beef. Some queso & I chimichanga that I didn't even touch. The place was PACKED when I got there. The staff was accommodating & courteous as usual. It's clear between David, the staff & the amazing food that they have a loyal following. It warmed my heart to see the support of this local business. Can't wait to be sitting in the dining room again soon. Do yourself a favor and try it. It's a wonderful restaurant.

Hands down by far the best Mexican restaurant I've sampled (and I've had quite a bit in these two years!) Their salsa is flavorful, chunky and full-bodied. You can't go wrong with an establishment that puts effort with their salsa when most places don't bother with this 'free' appetizer. Btw I had their quesadilla. It was loaded with cheese and meat! Thumbs up.

Get the sampler, it comes with sangria which is tasty, and also the fried cheese ball with green pepper in it....soooo good. Plus the people working there are nice. My husband I like to split the sampler for date night. We never finish all our food even with two of us eating it.

We have been going to El Matador for 30 years or more. It is our favorite Mexican restaurant, and we like Mexican. They have the best Chicken Chimichanga that exist. Be sure to try their Chili Reno. Great restaurant!!!

This restaurant has been great in the past. They had given me half off my meal before. We came in once again because of the great experience we previously had. This time however, we weren't so fortunate to receive the same discount. Although the food was okay, and service was decent. I was disappointed that the owner didn't honor the same discount as the previous occasion. Adding injury to insult he took off an extra $5 off the bill as opposed to what he should've given. It really left a bad taste in my mouth. I paid the bill...but I'll never patronize his business again. What should've transpired is he should've gave us the discount we received the last time but instead chose to increase his bottom dollar today.

1st time visit. Nice down home waiting area. David greeted us at the door ans was awesome. Rememberd our last name even as busy as it was. Its the small details!

Wow! What a fantastic place! Family owned since 1968 and it was amazing. The Pollo Fundido was superb. And the El Matador Sampler was awesome. Came with a little of everything and a mug of Sangria! We will definitely be back. Thanks guys!

We’ve been eating at The Mat for over 45 years and have Never been disappointed! In fact, it sets the standard for any other Mexican restaurant in our eyes!

It didn't take long to notice who the owner is. He was all over the place. I could see he new his costumer's by name. He made everyone feel at home. The staff was just as awesome. Taylor was our waitress. She was on top of it no matter what we needed and they were busy. She did great. I had the Fundido and it was great. We will be back for sure. The only thing I didn't like was being sat at a table next to the bar with my two kids.. the drunk at the bar was loud but that's not there fault. Over all I loved it

This is a "real" restaurant.... atmosphere was very pleasant, almost elegant in the dining room we were seated. The food was delicious and the service could not have been better.

By far the best Mexican restaurant in town. From the moment we walked in the door to the second we left we were treated like they really wanted our business. The employees spoke English and the food was amazing. Much higher quality than Coronas or the awful papas and beer. Most Mexican restaurants don’t care if you ever return but this one does. I have nothing at all bad to say about el matador.

Best authentic Mexican in the upstate! Their chilli rellenos are unlike any other Mexican restaurant and they are so delicious! Been going to El Matador for nearly 50 years.

This wonderful, family owned, restaurant is our absolute favorite for Mexican food. The service is good, the food is great, and the owner is one of the nicest guys out there. I don't think we've ever been there when he wasn't in the kitchen working. The great thing is, he still finds time to check on everyone and chat about how they're doing. The restaurant is in an old stone house and has unique character and charm. Don't miss it!

We never had eaten here now it’s our favorite Mexican restaurant. The chips, salsa, and all other dips and everything on the menu is high quality ingredients and is night and day from everywhere else. Service is wonderful as well.

Chilli rellanos the best

We have been going to El Matador for 30+ years. David has really made his parents proud by serving the best food and quality atmosphere. My family and I drive 120 miles to come and eat here after moving to Lexington. My favorite is the #12 Chili Relenos.

I keep these locked in my safe and only do the absolute greatest of the greats get what I’m about to give you. Here’s five more gold stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Need I say more folks? “Two chili relleno’s please” is all you need to say. It’s that simpleENJOY!

When they were in a different location I was a hostess& the food was great. I'm gonna try to go & eat there when I get a chance, hopefully the food is as good now as it was then. 🤞🤞I'm sorry to say that the food is not good like it use to be & I was very disappointed. 👎👎

The staff is great. The food is delicious. The wait time is hardly none. If you want a great Mexican Dinner, this is the place to go.

I would like to compliment a local restaurant where I dined this evening in Greenville SC. I am active military and I went to El Matador, an authentic Mexican restaurant on Poinsett Hwy, and met with two high school friends. The food and service were great! Once we had finished I wanted to treat my friends and I took the bill to the cashier to pay for all three meals. The owner took my bill, which was $38 and told me that the bill would only be $10 because he wanted to personally thank me for my service to our country. I was taken back but I thanked him for his generosity and compliment. He told me that he is always proud to see a uniformed US military member eat at his establishment. Thank you again El Matador!

I celebrated my nomination earlier this evening in this delicious restaurant. I am glad to say that it was a fantastic evening and the place was undoubtedly the reason for that happy evening. The crew participated in a splendid style, the food was delicious and my guests were very joyful. We shall absolutely visit again for more events. Thank you very much.

If you like HOT 🔥 salsa, then this is your restaurant! Service was great. our server was attentive without bring overbearing. Someone in our party had an issue with their food, and the chef came to the table to handle the problem. Food was good.

Queso dip is to die for, their portions are huge and delicious, and their guacamole is MADE IN THE RESTURAUNT. FROM SCRATCH. It's my go-to sit food place
